Vision
A peaceful world in which every person has full and equal access to human rights, no one is left behind, priority is given to people in greatest need, and society—including medical students and health workers—supports vulnerable groups.
Human Rights & Peace

The committee began in 1983 as the Standing Committee on Refugees, drawing attention to displaced populations and contributing to relief efforts. Members soon recognized that sustainable change required addressing violence, conflict and violations of human rights at their roots.
It became the Standing Committee on Refugees and Peace in 1995 and adopted its current name, the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace, in 2005. SCORP now unites students working toward equality, solidarity, dignity and peace.
Human-rights education, humanitarian action and advocacy for dignity and peace.
A peaceful world in which every person has full and equal access to human rights, no one is left behind, priority is given to people in greatest need, and society—including medical students and health workers—supports vulnerable groups.
To empower and motivate medical students to promote and protect human rights and peace through advocacy, capacity building, awareness, activities and projects that contribute to a fair and peaceful world.
SCORP's work is grounded in universal human-rights principles and the international agreements that protect human dignity, equality and freedom.
The committee understands peace as both the absence of conflict and the presence of equality, justice and social harmony.
Supporting refugees, migrants and other displaced communities remains a central priority, including advocacy for health, dignity, protection and inclusion.
Activities help medical students and communities understand rights-based healthcare and apply ethical principles in education and clinical practice.
Natural and human-made disasters can deprive people of food, water, shelter, healthcare and safety; responsible preparedness and humanitarian action can reduce harm.
SCORP addresses the needs of children, older people, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness and others exposed to discrimination, neglect or mistreatment.
