SRT'23: Beyond the Shemagh
IFMSA-Jo hosted Sub-Regional Training 2023: Beyond the Shemagh in Amman from 3 to 6 October, welcoming medical students and young physicians for capacity building, learning and cultural exchange.
The theme, ethnomedicine, explored the intersection of traditional healing practices and cultural diversity, bridging generational wisdom with modern medicine and promoting a more holistic approach to healthcare. Interactive discussions, hands-on exercises and small working groups built practical skills in leadership, advocacy and community-based training.
The Harir Palace Hotel hosted the training and social program, which included board games, food trucks, sunset gatherings and a traditional night. A post-SRT tour explored Aqaba, the Dead Sea and Petra.
