Professional Exchange
History of the Committee
The Standing Committee on Professional Exchange was founded in 1951 as one of IFMSA's first Standing Committees. It began with eight European countries and developed into one of the world's largest student-run clinical-exchange programs.
SCOPE offers a structured educational and cultural experience organized by medical-student volunteers with the support of medical faculties. Its four-week clerkships allow students to learn within another healthcare and education system while developing intercultural understanding.

To promote cultural understanding and cooperation among medical students and health professionals by facilitating international student exchanges and expanding access to globally relevant clinical learning.
Objectives
- Increase medical-student mobility and broaden students' academic and cultural horizons.
- Provide equitable access to professional exchanges regardless of geographic, political, financial, cultural, religious, gender or other background.
- Enable students to experience healthcare and medical education in another culture and understand how culture influences health and care.

- Develop future physicians with global vision, independence, openness and cultural sensitivity.

Main Topics
Four-week clerkships
Students undertake a supervised four-week placement in a selected clinical or pre-clinical field. Clerkships are educational and unpaid, with instruction in English or the host country's language.
Academic supervision
Every participant is assigned a physician tutor or supervisor who supports learning and helps the student understand the host healthcare system.
Bilateral and unilateral exchange
Participating National Member Organizations may exchange students through bilateral contracts or receive a student through a unilateral arrangement.
Hospital and cultural experience
The exchange combines hospital learning with lodging, at least one daily meal and, where available, a social program coordinated by the host organization.
Ethics and intercultural learning
Pre-departure preparation, professional conduct and respect for patients, resources and local culture are central to exchange quality.

SCOPE/SCORE Incoming Exchange Program
Through its SCOPE and SCORE Incoming Exchange programs, IFMSA-Jo welcomes medical students from around the world to Jordan, offering opportunities to experience clinical practice, research, Jordanian culture and international student life.
An exchange is more than a hospital placement or research project. It is an opportunity to experience a different healthcare and academic environment, meet people from different backgrounds and discover a new culture. Incoming students become part of the IFMSA-Jo community and are supported by Local Committees and exchange teams throughout their stay.
SCOPE provides international medical students with opportunities to undertake clinical clerkships in Jordanian hospitals and healthcare institutions. SCORE offers international medical students the opportunity to participate in research projects in Jordan under the supervision of experienced researchers and mentors.
During July and August, IFMSA-Jo offers a free social program for incoming students, helping them discover Jordan and connect with other exchange students and IFMSA-Jo members.
From clinical wards and research laboratories to Petra, Wadi Rum, Aqaba and the Dead Sea, IFMSA-Jo aims to make every exchange a memorable experience combining learning, connection, culture and discovery.
