Research Exchange
History of the Committee
The Standing Committee on Research Exchange was founded in 1991 as the Standing Committee on Electives Exchanges and later developed into SCORE. It was established to give medical students practical research experience in different academic and cultural settings.
SCORE now connects active National Member Organizations with thousands of supervised projects. Exchanges introduce students to literature review, data collection, scientific writing, laboratory methods, statistics and research ethics, and are coordinated by medical-student volunteers.

Mission
To offer future physicians opportunities to experience research and cultural diversity through a network of locally and internationally active students that facilitates access to supervised research-exchange projects.

- Enable students to take responsibility for learning in an area that reflects their interests.
- Introduce medical students to the principles and practical methods of medical research.
- Expose students to different approaches to healthcare, research ethics, medical education and treatment.
- Improve the academic quality of medical curricula through practical and theoretical research learning.
- Build collaboration among medical schools, research institutions, supervisors and students worldwide.
Main Topics
Supervised research projects
Each student joins a mentor-guided project and develops skills in literature searching, data collection, scientific writing, laboratory work, statistics and ethical research practice.
Project formats
Available placements may include basic laboratory research, clinical research with laboratory work, clinical research without laboratory work and Global Action Projects.
Scientific communication
Depending on the project, participants may prepare a written scientific report or deliver an oral presentation at the end of their exchange.
Local exchange support
Local Officers on Research Exchange coordinate projects, housing and preparation, while a local contact person supports cultural and social integration.
Intercultural collaboration
Research learning takes place alongside cultural exchange, helping students become culturally sensitive researchers and globally connected future physicians.

International Research Camp (IRC) 2023
IFMSA-Jo hosted the International Research Camp 2023 in Amman from 4 to 9 July, bringing together young medical researchers from around the world for five days of training, collaboration and cultural exchange under SCORE.
The camp offered a structured, step-by-step program designed to build the skills needed to develop a research proposal from the ground up. Interactive sessions, hands-on workshops and small working groups covered the core components of research methodology and gave participants space to apply what they learned with mentors and peers.
Beyond the academic schedule, a daily social program introduced participants to Jordanian culture and culminated in a National Food and Drink Party. A post-camp excursion explored Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba.
IRC 2023 reflected IFMSA-Jo's commitment to research capacity, academic collaboration and stronger connections among young researchers across the IFMSA network.
